Anonymous Club (2022)

Doing something very special for this one since it’s definitely one of my very favorite films of 2022 so far. Usually the new movie review monologues cover the new releases I catch up with in bulk but I wanted to give this one its own separate audio and accompanying interview with the director of this terrific documentary following life on the road with one of my favorite songwriters Courtney Barnett. Give a listen to my review and my conversation with Danny Cohen, responsible for this excellent film.

SYNOPSIS: The antithesis of a rock biography ANONYMOUS CLUB paints a raw and intimate picture of enigmatic singer-songwriter, Courtney Barnett - a powerful voice for our times, a recluse acclaimed by audiences the world over and a strong female artist in conflict with herself. Featuring Barnett's unguarded narration from her audio diary, recorded on a dictaphone provided by filmmaker Danny Cohen, the film delivers frank and unprecedented insight into Barnett's creative process, the sacrifices and inner conflicts set in motion by fame, and the sometimes dark backdrop to her whimsical, relatable poetic compositions.
